Default ? on transmission servicing.

Just wondering for those of you out there with automatic transmissions, do you guys have your tranny serviced and fluid changed at certain intervals? I just got my mustang with 60,000 miles on it and i dont think the fluid was ever changed on the car so i was wondering if i should have it changed as preventive maintenance. I hear mixed opinions on this and wanted to know what you guys think i should do.

60k would be the second time due for the change , If it was not done at 30k and you do it at 60k you will lose evry seal on the trans ... If it was let go you hafto waite untill the rebuild to keep on top of trans service . But if it was done at 30k and you dont do it at 60 that makes you the bad guy so find the old owner if possable and ask him

Thats just my 2 cents

Don't make much sense to me either! I didn't change the fluid and filter in my '88 AOD until around 50,000 miles and it ran fine after that until I replaced it with a new racing trans after 108,000 miles and the seals were not leaking then! And I drag raced it a lot between 78,000 and that 108,000 miles too.
I would most definitely change the fluid and filter in your trans like you said for preventive maintenance and don't worry about the seals leaking just because you change the fluid!

Use only the Ford type trans fluid specified in the owner's manual in your trans. Fords use a different fluid from most other manufacturers.

Roundman, I am about to do a full fulid change with filter and adding a trans cooler and shift kit, I am thinking about useing Royal Purple trans fluid for the change, Should I not use it and get ford fluid for the change? Car has 35k on it.

the Royal Purple fluid is fine, just make sure to get the Ford type that they make to make sure it's compatible with the trans.
