Default Help When Buying/Using SLicks?

Hello, I was wondering what I should look for when buying a used set of mustang slicks.
I am going to my first drag race ( driving ) in the spring in my 100% stock 1990 mustang just for kicks.
I am racing my dads 68 nova, and I want to hold my own.
We both know I am probably going to shank the reaction time, but other then that it’ll be all good.
My questions for you are:
Would using slick on my first pass - ever, be stupid? I have never has experience with them.

And also, when buying a used pair, what should I look for?
I want to make it a surprise for when I pull up to race my dad, so I do not want to make it obvious you know?
BTW I am 18.
Thanks!

Um, I'd never buy used tires...[:'(]

But if you insist, I'd look for a more streetable tire than just flat-out drag slicks. Like maybe Nitto's or something.

On a 100% stock mustang, look at a set of drag radials of some type. Less likely to over do the traction things and brake something.

MT ET streets, BFG drag radial, NT555R........

Learn to race, then upgrade as you need. It's a smarter (safer) way to go about it all.

I am not much of a used tirw person either, but i onlyplan on using them for a few passes.

Can you guys tell me if there is any dangers involved here?

Like they twist you a bit, dangerous? You need alot of experiance? I am just going to have fun, no intentions to die.
