Default 351 C engine rebuild

My 70 Mach has the original 351 C 4bbl engine but rebuilt 15 years ago with the low compression pistons. It is time for a rebuild and i want as much HP possible (350?)while running on pump gas and also be a daily driver and completely streetable. I have to keep the block but am open to changing heads, intake and carb. It has the stock FMX trans but i would like to convert to AOD at the time of engine rebuild. What about a stroker kit with Aussie heads or just the 2bbl cleveland heads? Cam, lifters, compression ratio, brand of piston? I can do the rebuild (absent the machine work) myself but dont know what to put in.

as far as I know thare is no after market heads for the 335's
just dont need them . A 4V head with big cam needs a blower to fill them up .

the olny pistons I use are Ross.... cant beat them or the coumster service . call them and tell them what your plans are . Plan on being on the phome with them for1/2 hour they ask a lot of questions . I think you are looking for 10:1 compression cause it is a street car

call comp cams after ross and set up your cam same deal they ask alot and have a good tec line

you dont need a stroker kit IMO but if you do opt for it 400 is a great street setup and can be done cheep

you need a proformer RPM to fill up that head kause they are huge

make a coupple calls and you will get just what you want

IMO
clevland is not a good daily driver it is to high proformance . the windsor would be a better pump for what you want ...IMO

another option is to call the Ford Racing parts tech line and discuss with them what you want to do and see what they have to say. their number in in a sticky at the top of this section.
I agree with fats that you would have an easier time finding parts cheaper for the 351W but you've already got the Cleveland so you may as well keep it.

Thank you for the information. I will make the calls you suggest. Yep, that windsor would have given me many more options but i dont have the room to store the cleveland anywhere. I was reading in one of the ford mags that the 2bbl cleveland heads would give me better street performance over a 4bb cleveland. I can get a rebuilt set for $400 so i might try that with the performer maniford. But, before i do, i will get some advice from the tech lines at Ross, Ford Racing and Comp Cams. Got some income tax money back for once so i am excited about the rebuild.

Wow, you guys dont know about any of the aftermarket mods for the Clevelands? You guys have been in the dark too long, let me take you to the light my child!

These are my FAVORITE aftermarket heads for the Cleveland, they also offer a 2bbl equivolant and different port and and valve sizes.

BEHOLD
ALUMINUM AUSSIE 4V HEADS!!!
Your Savior

Then here we have a beautiful DMPFI setup that is both affordable and creates gobs of power! This is the ULTRAFLOW intake

Those are just some little things that you can look at, hope you guys enjoy

By the way, Clevelands are awesome performance machines but need a little oiling help to the rear of the block, there are kits to feed oil to the back to aid in lubrication.

another option is to inquire about selling the Cleveland engine to a racer or speed shop as they are in high demand for certain stock or super stock classes in drag racing and I've heard they are hard to find anymore so they should fetch a good price if you could locate a buyer. if there's a speed shop in your area, why not ask them if they know of someone interested in a Cleveland engine? if you sell it, I'm sure you could make enough to buy a good 351W.

NeoTokyo, i had no idea anything like that was available and its impressive. However, i was hoping to spend about 3k total on the engine rebuild. I guess i am way behind the times. I will find out soon enough. roundman, the engine numbers match my vin so i want to keep it so that at some future point, if i want to sell the car, i still have the original block, heads, intake and carb to go with the engine. Seems the value is 5k higher with original engine. Edelbrock makes heads for the 351c? Wow. I need to check in to that but cost is probably prohibitive. Sorry, should have indicated i had a budget on this rebuild. Thanks for the info.
