Too funny. He couldn't nail you for speeding or he would have. Noise tickets are BS. Here in Washington the law is worded in a way that you can get out of them fairly easily.
In order for you to be found guilty they have to test your exhaust noise in accordance with SAE testing procedures in a controlled environment. It's illegal to replace the cats UNLESS: they're damaged/defective OR you've got 50k miles/36 months (iirc). It's illegal to modify the exhaust system to make it louder, but the law says nothing about replacing it. Again, even if you replace it and it passes the SAE testing procedure of under 95db (again, iirc), then you're golden.
But that's just in Washington - look up the law in your area.
PS. when I bought my truck (86 dodge 4x4) it had rusted out cherry bombs pointed out either side. No cats (not required for my truck) or other resonators. I pulled up to a light with one of my tailpipes pointed straight at a deputy sheriff's head and STILL I didn't even get looked at. But if you irritate a cop he'll try and get you for anything.

It is amazing how many cops run when you show up to court to fight any tickets.

Make sure all the information on the ticket is correct. plate number, make, model, and color (that is a big one) is correct. Make sure he got your name right too. If any of that information is not right, opps. Any info on the ticket that is not correct, will almost always get you out of a ticket. I got out of my first and only speeding ticket because the police officer wrote down the wrong location that the driving violation took place.

The information that horatio102 posted is very good, but you need to check with your local state laws.

You wanna hear some new BS? In Texas a new law was just passed that says if the state name is not visible on your license plate you can be fined up to $200. How ya like them apples?

Its all just a ploy to #1 get more money, #2 find more reasons to pull people over and search for other things. F**king cops
