i have a set of flat tappets and i want to know if they are hydraulic or solid, whats the best way to determine this? i tried to depress the pushrod side of the lifter and it wouldnt depress, is this evidence that its solid. no they arent in my car, they have been in my garage for months and im trying to sell them

RE: lifters
no dude solid lifters can have a roller on the bottom . that makes them a solid roller lifter . thare is also a hydrolic roller . the flat tappid refers to the bottom of the lifter not the top
a lifters tappid is the bottom whare it go on the cam and it is either flat or has a roller on it . the solid or hydrolic refers to the top whare the pushrod goes .
look at the top of the lifter whare the pushrod goes . the movement is very little . is thare a clip or something that looks like a peice of wire holding the lifters guts in . that would be a hydrolic lifter . also look on the side is thare a little hole whare oil can get in it should be very small that will also be a hydrolic lifter
a flat tappid solid lifter should look like not mutch more than a shiney c cell batterie
