Rear Sway Bar
So after reading through a lot of posts and threads and some other online resources I just want to confirm a few things. I can take any GT or Cobra (without IRS) rear sway bar and add it to my 02 v6 coupe? Also Ive read that because the Cobra bar is hollow it has a tendancy to break where the solid part expands and rounds out to the hollow part. With that said am I better off to get a GT bar over a Cobra bar? I know there are better aftermarket bars out there, but Im just looking for a cheap mod that I can do myself more for the enjoyment of working on the car in the spring. Finally if I find a used bar, is it hard to find the oem style hardware to mount it properly?
Any GT or Cobra sway bar will work as long as the Cobra doesn't have IRS. I forget the exact years that you can use on the SN95 chassis. I think it is any from 87-04 will work.
The reason that you don't want to use a Cobra rear sway bar is because they are so thick. I think only the 97 Cobra rear sway bars had the tendency to break at the corner welds. If you get a rear sway bar that is too thick compared to your front sway bar it will negatively impact your handling. If you were to get a Cobra rear sway bar then it is strongly advised that you get the matching Cobra front sway bar as well.
You will like how the rear sway bar tightens up the suspension a bit.
