engine swap
I am thinking about bying a 1980's mustang and I am curious how hard it would be two swap from the 4 banger to a 302 would I have to make engine mounts and would i also have to swap the tranny

RE: engine swap
I dont think it would be that hard, just the usual crap, engine, motor mounts, complete wiring harness for engine, trans and ecu, new trans, double hump crossmember, driveshaft, 8.8" rear end and some small stuff along the way.
But being a 4banger i think its going to be a little more then that. I think the K-frame is completly different so you might have to purchase a new K-Frame. Not a big deal because QA1 has you coverered for about $200 bux. Also I think the suspension needs to be beefed up as well with new springs and shock and you should pay attention to your brakes too!
Have fun

RE: engine swap
that sounds like more than i want to do right know so i think ill cross off the the egine swap idea and just look for one with a v8 already not that i dont think i could do it but it sounds like it cost more than just finding one with a v8

RE: engine swap
yo I did a coupple 2.3L to 5.0 swaps
The K is the SAME as the v8 , all you need is the V8 mounts and it bolts right in . If it is early 80's pre 1986 it's carbed and you dont need aney wiring changes the collant sensor and oil pressure sensor on the 2 blocks are the same and bolt right on , the alt wires are the same and the 4 slugger alt will bolt to the V8 bracket juust neds a pullie change . as far as iggy parts you need the V8 dizzy and iggy box , If it is dura spark they plug right in to the 4 slugger wire harness . MSD Iggy system would be the best move but will cost around 500 bux
If it is a EFI swap then you need the wire harness from the V8 car and all EFI parts , not to hard to do olny take a afternoon to set up the EFI stuf from a donnar .
The trans should be swaped but I bin hearing guys useing the 4 cylnder T-5 for the taller first gear ratio ,but I never did it . the v8 will be fine with the 4 sluggers springs and suspention , a lot of v8 guys are putting the 4 sluggers springs on their V8 cars , the rear is also fine with a stock or bolt on v8 in front of it . the V8 used the same rear until 1987 or 88 not shure when it switched to 8.8 . so keep the 7.5 until you find a good 8.8 with a good gear at the right price
Why not just buy a V8 car insted of swapping , a good looking V8 car will be in the naborhood of 5,000 bux . A good looking 4 slugger will be around 500 bux
O one more thing on a EFI car the fuel pump for the 4 slugger is the same part # as the V8 car so it will fead it until you start makeing power . and stay away from QA1 k members they are abslouit s**t use a diffrent tubelar K if you think you need one
