Default cobra IRS

I have a '98 mustang GT. At my disposal, I also have a complete IRS out of a cobra. How hard would it be to bolt the IRS to my GT?

Have you ever done a rear-end swap before? The IRS is a more complicated rear-end swap than just swapping out a SRA8.8 for a SRA8.8.

I have some experience with rear ends of Fords. Most of what I know is GM. I'm a drivetrain specialist at a GM dealer. So I was just wondering if it would really be that difficult or if its something that I could do it my driveway.

IRS is not the ideal rear end for drag racing either.

Maybe he isn't in to drag racing... I have been looking at doing the Cobra IRS swap onto my car. They provide a much better weight transfer than the SRA set-up on the base and GT models for road racing/auto crossing.

That's why I threw it out there though. Some people think that IRS is teh gr8test fer @ll. IRS ain't so great for drag racing, but is good for all other racing.

If you know how to launch it properly an IRS isn't that hard to get used too. Sure it isn't the best platform for drag-racing but it does make for a more comfortable daily driving experience.

Was IRS available on '98 Stangs? Are there going to be mounting points for it??

What year IRS is it?

I've seen the swap done on sn95 Mustangs before. I don't know what is involved but I hear it's not difficult because the Cobra IRS was designed to work with the same mounting points as the solid rear (since Cobras and GT shared the same unibody). What's why some people also say that the Cobra IRS isn't as good as a car that was designed for an IRS since it was designed around the mounting requirements for a live axle.

I've never done the swap myself so what I'm saying here is just what I've heard from other people who know more about it.

Man, you ain't kidding. My leaves + sway bars and traction bars tend to make for a jarring ride over bumpy roads.
