cobra IRS
I have some experience with rear ends of Fords. Most of what I know is GM. I'm a drivetrain specialist at a GM dealer. So I was just wondering if it would really be that difficult or if its something that I could do it my driveway.
Maybe he isn't in to drag racing... I have been looking at doing the Cobra IRS swap onto my car. They provide a much better weight transfer than the SRA set-up on the base and GT models for road racing/auto crossing.
If you know how to launch it properly an IRS isn't that hard to get used too. Sure it isn't the best platform for drag-racing but it does make for a more comfortable daily driving experience.
I've seen the swap done on sn95 Mustangs before. I don't know what is involved but I hear it's not difficult because the Cobra IRS was designed to work with the same mounting points as the solid rear (since Cobras and GT shared the same unibody). What's why some people also say that the Cobra IRS isn't as good as a car that was designed for an IRS since it was designed around the mounting requirements for a live axle.
I've never done the swap myself so what I'm saying here is just what I've heard from other people who know more about it.
