Default RPM needle not moving. HELP!

Hi everyone,

I had a set of 3.73 rear differentials put in my AODE 2002 Ford Mustang last night. As a result, the speedometer is off by about 10 miles. But no big deal. I figured I'll get a chip and have the speed calibrated at some point in the near future.

This morning, I'm heading to work when the RPM needle gets stuck at 1500 RPMs. It has stayed that way despite giving the car gas or deccelerating. I called the Performance shop that put the gears in and they said that the RPM needle getting stuck would have nothing to do with the gear swap. So is this just coincidence? I'm not sure what to do now or what I should tell my regular shop to try to fix this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Trey

I had the same thing happen on a MK VIII.I removed the tach and used some spray graphite lube to free it up.Spray lock cylinder lube worked.Just be sure to get one with graphite lubricant or it won't last long.Try to spray on the bearings only.

You know it may have been acting up now that I think of it. I noticed sometimes that the needle didn't look like it was smoothly going down or going up but looked "jumpy" sometimes. Is that an indication?

I just went for a spin during lunch and it's completely fine again. So this is frustrating!

Not as mind-blowing as everyone made it out to be. It's like riding around with overdrive on all the time. I'm definitely not getting that "foot to the floor" feeling I used to get, so the acceleration I guess is better, but where I'm feeling the most power is in 2nd or 3rd gear around 2-2500 rpms. Most people complain that their gears give out in the higher RPMs, but that's where I'm feeling the most notable change. Is that wierd?

the tach would not be affected by the gear change whatsoever.
