Default short throw install

I just put in a new B&M short throw shifter. No real problems with it. However, it seems like its difficult to put into the gears. Yes, it is much shorter than stock (35%), but shouldn't it still slide in smooth? The directions only said that i needed to put a bead of silicone around the shifter to seal it, but should I have put some kind of grease in there? Its only been in 1 day, so maybe it will become easier after i put some miles on it.

If anyone knows for sure that would be great.

all aftermarket shifters don't feel smooth, they will have a choppy feel
to them. like a metal on metal feel. don't add grease..

yeah, it has nothing to do with staying in gear. its sliding in that is a little rough, but the more i drive it the better it feels. I think sastangman answered my question for me.
thanks
