Turning over an engine Manually
If the engine is already out why don't you just use a breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft bolt? Doesn't take that much effort and it's probably safer than tapping bare electrical leads together.
right now i have the engine assembled, no plugs in, the torque converter is attached, the flywheel as well as bell housing I need to get two nuts on the torque converter, but i cant reach it unless i turn the engine over. I can't do it using a breaker bar, I was thinking of using the starter to do it. How can I do it, when I attach the starter directly to the battery it just sparks, no turn. Starter is new. Do I need to include the solenoid?
