Default For those who do maintenance

My apartment complex will not allow car maintenance to be done in the parking lots.
Any good ideas where to take the car to work on it myself?

Secondly, where is the rear jack point for the rear end of a 98 mustang cobra.
I'm trying to change my fuel filter. In the past, when Iwas in the Navy I could put it on a lift at the hobby shop on base. Now, I am finding it harder and harder to work on the car with the facillitesgone!!

Yea that sux most apartment comples parking lots don't want people crawling around their cars working on them. Next best thing would be go to a buddies garage. Better still if a buddy has a garage but no mech skills you can "thank" the guy by looking over his car while your there.

The jacking point is usually just in front of the rear tire. There should be a small notch in the body that matches the jacks notch

You should be able to change the fuel filter without a jack, but if not, I always put a peice of carpet on my jack and jackstands then lift the axle and support each side of it with the stands

What youre looking for if you dont use the axle is the part of exposed frame as a jacking point. If you jack anywhere but there or the axle, youre risking all your car's weight on thin thin metal.

To answer your question, you should always use jackstands while under a car. That equates to bad news if not.

If you jack it from the frame vs. the axle, youre going to have to jack it for a bit longer in order to get the stands underneath

Thank you! I guess I'll lift one side (where the filter is)and put it on a stand and get under there and do my thing.

These as prices are crazy recently. Luckily I have found that I can save a bit from shifting from 2nd right into 4th and save some engine strain.
