Default shifting in an automatic

I have an automaticgt which i wish i didn't. i would like to get a manual transmission put in but i do not have $4000-$5000. Will it damage my transmission if i shift in my automatic? I usually go up to about 5 rpm in 1st then go to about 4 rpm in 2nd. then i just have to go to drive.

It won't help anything to manually shift your auto tranny

Say What? It won't hurt the auto to manually shift it. Have you ever noticed the auto-shifters on many new cars? I shift my 05 Vert manually all the time at the track (open-track events) to keep it from shifting too soon going through the corners.

Have you done ET runs comparing one where you manually shift VS letting the car shift? What kinda difference have you seen on timeslips?

you can to make it feel more torquey or for low roll racing..the thing is,1st and 2nd are the most powerful when shifting and 3rd is more of a passing highway gear.I have left it in 1st for a roll upwards of 30mph hitting redline then upshifting to D to get a nice jump,or from a higher roll I have used 2nd (2/D)with favorable results.3rd seems to lag in terms of building up speed so upshifting to D feels alot quicker.3rd on the highway is perfect for me when I need to pass,2nd is for merging and 1 is just to have fun in lol.

From a deadstop it seems like just leaving it in D,power braking to 2k seems to be the best bet for acceleration.

I don't think it'll hurt the tranny but it does build up heat I bet.Just avoid doing obviously dumb things and it should be okay lol.

If you going to be off roading and going up a hill, declining, doing a burnout, its better to drop it into 1st and 2nd manually if you really care.

When you engage into 1st and 2nd manually on a auto, it engages a secondary clutch in the tranny, i think in fords, it only has the secondary clutch in the 1st, but technically better for the tranny that way in certain conditions.

If your racing; let your car do the shifting.
If you feel the need to Shift your Auto, it's Ok to it every once in a while, but if you do it often I'd suggest buying a trans cooler.
Like GrayStang said, it's faster to let the car shift itself.
