Default Over Heating - 1995 Mustang GT Convt

I own a 1995 Mustang GT Convt that every now and then randomally over heats. I have brought it in to a number of repair shops and work has been done but doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

The themostat has been replaced, the fan motor, along with the fan motor control module, and Water Pump andI an drive 200 hundred miles on the highway and I will be fine but sometimes out of the blue it over heats and I stop it before it gets to "H" and start it back up again and it cools down.

Could someone provide some advice? Just last sunday I drove 15 minutes on side roads and and the car got pretty hot. I pull over to a gas station to fill up and once i started it back up .... it was still hot but within 5 minutes it cooled down again.

One mechanic thinks but he isn't sure that it can be a cracked head or a head gasket issue but since it happens once and while and without explaining I think it is electrical or something.

Anything would help!

Thanks
Vic

sounds like an intermittent electrical problem, if it doesn't happen all the time... you have changed all of the fan control stuff?

Yes everything except the computer. My last mechanic really thinks its the head gasket or cracked head but he wants me to wait it out to see if it gets worse before replacing the head gasket or fixing the cracked head. But this have been going on for about a year. I brought it in once to a mechanic while it was hot but its hard since i dont know when its going to happen next and the fan and everything was working properly and they just scratch their head. I was thinking to bring it in to the dealer but figured I would post something on this forum to see if there is anyone with ideas.

As far as im concerned hes just after your wallet, hoping hell be the one to do the engine work if it does happen to die on you. Personally, id stay away from that shop. You want to fix something like this before it becomes a big problem, not after.

Since it overheats out of the blue, my guess is something electrical to. A bad gauge or the temp sensor itself are a definite possibility.

Check for codes?

No Codes and its not a bad gauge or sensor because it is actually over heating, the motor gets pretty hot, never touched the red side of the gauge but it has steamed once. Now this has been going on for about a year and it seems like it started after i took it in for a tune up, could be just a coincidence. The only other mechanic work I did was replacing the mass intake flow sensor and the clutch as a FYI.

Does it get hot if you are doing "city driving" (stop and go) and stays cool on the highway?
One thing you may want to check is that the fan DOES come on and what the temp gauge is at when it does. Another thing to check is the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). Mine went bad and was causing overheating issues. The CCRM has a bunch of relays that controls a few different things, including when your fan comes on. A newCCRM is $180-$200 from the dealer, but I heard you may be able to just replace one of the relays in the old CCRM for a few dollars.

Good luck.

I would say its "City Driving" since I driven for hours on the highway and it doesn't get hot and when i get off the highway it will start getting warmer. Last sunday, all i did was drive it for 15 minutes to the next town over and it got hot and the fan was on. I stopped at a gas station and gased up and drove off continuing on side roads and it cooled down. Now I know that the fan control module was replaced, is that the same as CCRM?

That Im not sure about. If you have a repair manual, try looking it up. Just give it some time and someone who knows their stuff will pop in here. Sorry cant be of more help.

There are 2 temp sensors, one is for the temp guage the other is for the computer. which one was replaced?
Does it have underdrive pullies on it? On my 94 I had issues with it over heating at first than having a charging issue down the road which i changed back to the stock pullies.
