Default Finally got it....what now....HELP!!!!

Hi,
I finally bought a 68 coupe. Now the hard part, I have to restore it. The car isn't too bad and not much rust except for the usual places. This will be the first car I've restored and I'm still a bit new to this. I'm figuring that I'll start at one end and work my way to the other end. Hope that the right way to go???? I've taken off the fenders and am looking to clean up the engine compartment and get the surface rust taken care of. My question is this: Is there a product out there that will take care of getting rid of the rust? I got a product as Schucks that is supposed to neutralize the rust and primer it at the same time. Anyone know if this stuff really works? Also, how do you take care of all the surface rust that is in the bolt holes and nooks and crannies?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Damian

congrats on the mustang! you could probably just sandblast the parts unless you don't have a sandblaster. i do recommend one if your going to restore a car though.good luck on it!

First off congrats and welcome to a fine world of never ending projects. Well if you wanna get rid of rust that bad you have to eliminate it not put primer over it. Rust is called cancer because of how it acts and it will spread. Chances are if there is rust that you can see there is more of it then you can actually see, you might have a rust spot the size of a dime that you can see but it might actually be 6 inches wide. If your gonna worry about the rust in bolt holes and what not plan on a frame off resto and replacing every bolt and nut on the car because if it's 40 years old and its original, chances are theres rust on it. I would suggest just tearing the whole car down if you want to properly eliminate all the rust, it sucks but it's worth it.
