Default Clutch not disengaging

This isn't a mustang, but a 03 ranger 4.0 stick. it is my dialy driver atm. The clutch seams like it is not completely disengaging when I step on the clutch, and when I try to shift it wont go into any gear. I have to hold the clutch pedal down a min or so than it will let me shift gears. any Ideas what I have to look at? or is the problem? it has about 107000 miles on it on the original clutch.

well to me it sounds like either the clutch has gone or the clutch plate the gearbox is damged or the gearstick is bent or it could be that its a 106 and the gearbox is too small for most gear sticks

Is that a hydraulic set-up? A bad clutch won't ENgage, not disengage. It sounds to me like it is hydraulic and has a leak or if it's a cable than, maybe it's stretched and needs adjustment. Whatever type it is, it is a linkage issue.

It is a cable system.
Havent messed with anything since I got it 50k ago, except for changing the fluid out of the trans about 5000 miles ago. I changed the fluid cause it began ocationaly preventing me to go into gear. I am leaning toward a clutch atm cause I have used it to pull a few small trees out from my yard so I know that clutch is low by now. Just wanted to see if i had any more options to patch it while my stang is in pieces atm. I don't realy have the time to mess with it to much and am thinkin of taking it to a shop to have it looked at.

How much freeplay is in the pedal? It may need adjustment. When the disc wears out, it will not grab. I haven't seen one that will not come out of gear because the disc is worn. Did you use correct oil when you changed it? (had to ask)

I agree with Stepman's diagnoisis. If you are confident it's not disengaging it could be the pilot bearing dragging the input shaft.

The problem started before I changed the oil. Used atf oil as ford recomended for it. Problem isnt coming out of gear, but going into gear.

Ok, if you arenot having problems with it slipping when driving, I would say your clutch is fine and he problem is somewhere else. You don't actually need the clutch to pull it out of gear. There are a few things that can cause your problem. A bad/binding pilot bearing, weak pressure plate, or out of adjustment, worn syncro's...

Start with the basics and easiest. How much "freeplay" do you have in the pedal? How far does it go down before you feel resistance?
Next...where does it start to grab? When you have it in gear, how far do you let it up before it starts to grab?

Have you tried "doulble clutching"? Does that help?
