I bought my 1996 Mustang GT last september. It only had 120 000 km when I purchased it and have only put on 10 000 km since then. However now my engine is leaking quite a bit of oil into the engine. I'm burning oil, around 1/4 of a litre per 400km. I've been takin her real easy lately to try and slow down the process but the engine only has so much time left. I've been told that perhaps before I bought it someone rolled back the odometer. How can I find this out? If this is the case I can hopefully get my money back or money I've put into the car trying to fix this problem without rebuilding the engine. Any solution or information you could give me would help alot. I'm stuck. It'd wouldn't be worth putting the money into it and I dont wanna sell it to give someone else the problem I've been left with. Please help! thanks alot.

Are all the numbers alligned correctly?
Do they jiggle or move while your driving?
Do you have a title; examine the mileage on it.
Get a CarFax.

Odometer tampering is very illegal in every state. Good luck.

 

Got the car Fax Report. Everything seems normal! they only put 66 000 km on it by 2003 and theres quite a few records of the milage before then and after. So everything looks okey! now I have to figure out what to do with the thing. Anyone know how long it could last with it burning oil?

 

I honestly have no idea. I'd estimate as long as you keep oil topped off in it could be a decent amount of time.

 

One of the previous owners may have beat on it or even has Nos hooked on it for a while wearing out hte motor. It can last for a few weeks or for a few years hard to say on how long the motor will last with out a crystal ball.
