Alternator
How much would one generally cost for a sn-95?
How long would it take to install? What about if I did it myself, im not very mechanical but I can do something like change a cai. I understand there is adjusting required to the belts?

1. disconnect battery
2. remove the stock induction tube from air filter to throttle body (This makes it easier to remove tention on the belt by moving the belt tensioner....watch ur fingers)
3. disconnect the pos terminal on the back of the alt using a 3/8 or 10mm wrench
4. use a small screw driver to disconnect the 2 plugs going into the alt.
5. remove nut on back of alt that is attached to a braket
6. remove 2 bolts on front
7. remove alt
8. reverse to install new alt.
Are you sure Your alt is bad?

Actually i'm not sure its the alt or not...
My battery volt meter has been sitting at around 10v instead of the usual 12v, and tends to decline as I drive further and further. Yesterday, I put my AC on not thinking, and it dipped the needle down even faster, to about 8v, at which time I knew my car wouldnt start when I turned it off. So when I got home, I turned it off, tried to turn it back on and it wouldnt start. It wasnt just a dead battery either, I could hear it trying to turn over...
Anyways, about1 hr later, I check the volt meter by putting the keys in the accessories position, reads 10v, lower than normal, but I try it, it starts fine, reads a perfect 12v like tis suppose to.
Then I try it a few hours later and it reads 10v again :*(
My dad thinks it could all be in the cable terminals, being corroded and rusted not giving the alternator the proper connection....We're going now to take it in to replace the terminals.

From what your describing, It does sound like your dad is right. clean and make sure all your connections are tight first. than go to a autozone or advanced auto or what ever and have the batt and charging system checked. Also inspect the cables and make sure they feel the same, sometimes they do corrode from the inside and do funny things.
Thanks guys, I just went to Canadian Tire (our Autozone) and had them redo a battery check, as well as an alternator check. They claim that I need a new alternator ($200+) after the tests, even printed me out a paper that I couldn't read , didnt really have much info.
Anyways, they claim I need a new one which I cant afford atm.
Is it possible, that with crappy/rusted/corroded terminals, my alternator could be reading as faulty?

So I changed terminals, got a boost, car died after about 30 seconds...so i'm pretty sure now it is the alternator.
1 more question: Are there any special tools I will need to remove the tensionor or anything else for that matter? Should this take me about 1 hour? (thats what the mechanic wanted to charge)
