I have a 66 Mustang with an i6 200ci engine. I am trying to get it running but am running into some problems.

Here is what I have been facing, starting from step 1:

Attempted to start using new battery and new alternator installed.
Clicked but nothing happened other than that.
Tried again and nothing, not even a click.

Replaced the solinoid, tried again. Nothing, no click

Pulled out the starter, it looked worn but when tested it seemed to work fine. Tested starter with battery in my vehicle, nothing. I figured the old solinoid did something to drain the battery.

I connected battery to a charger, it says it has about 3 amps. I tried hooking battery up to wall charger and attempt a jump by crossing (used screwdriver technique to cross the starter and battery on the solinoid). It sparked and then nothing. There was a bit of smoke coming from the cables connected to the battery. I am picking up new cables later today.

Any thoughts on what it might be considering the starter seems to be working fine and the battery and solinoid are brand new. I have the batter on charge currently.

 

So far, it sounds like a bad connection on one of the cables. Try cleaning the connections.

 

a couple cables on the solinoid were connected improperly. all fixed now and am doing a flush of the cooling system.
