Default air filter

ok guys k&n sells two kind of filterss. a regular flat panel filter and a replacement cone filter. i was wondering what is better? i heard that you can put a panel in there and cut the whole bigger in the intake box as big as the fender hole and it would be as good as a CAi. what would be better? that or a cone?

cutting the fender to the size of the stock box is better bc the air the srock box sucks in is cold air and the cone filter sucks hot air from the engine compartment so i say get the panel filter and cut the hole bigger
