Engine Knock

I just recently purchased a 1996 ford Mustang v6 engine w/86,0000 miles he has a tap in the engine what could that be a a lifter or vales. I have changed oil to high mileage and still have the knock. please email me at bgibson@sai-inc my work address please here til 3:00 pm eastern time . Thanks
