Starter going bad????????
hey all
Everyday I start my car and everday if the car hasn't been running for an hour or so, i hear a high pitched winding cracking sound "best way to explain" coming from the engine! only on start up-if i don't let the car run for more then 45 mins or so it will constantly do that! And more so lately it has done that same thing but kind of spuddered after words!! any idea's? has anyone else had this problem? i would like to find out before i spend $200.00+ on a starter that is not needed.
thanks all

You could take the starter off and have Auto Zone test it to see if it is bad or going bad, but for some reason, I just don't think that would be a starter issue. Check these out and see if maybe this won't help ya isolate the issue.

My car does something similar on cold start-up. It doesn't do it while cranking, it does it right after the motor fires up. I can only describe it as a series of short "turkey call" sounds for about 1.5 seconds after the motor fires up. It's almost like the starter isn't disengaging or something.
