I am a big fan of the little 302 they are great motors with lots of potential but ford did mess up on the fuel pump choice.

on a stock fuel pump the diaphragm failure leak hole that keeps gas out of your engine oil sprays directly onto the exhaust manifold. Who's idea was this cmon?

Id recommend anybody who is going to change a fuel pump on a 302 don't skimp and go buy a marine style duel diaphragm pump , some even come in a kit with a water and derbies filter..

Removing the water from 87OCT results in improved gas mileage.

 

ive come to the conclusion that not all ideas thought up by(design) engineers are good ones!
