Default Steering problems (to much play)

Ok, I have an 88 fox that I have completly upgraded the power steering system. I have installed a new pump, FRP power steering rack, pressure n return lines, bump steer kit, and a new flex joint (conecting the colum to the rack). After doing all the work and geting the car aligned I noticed I have a lot of play in the steering. There is about 8 inches of play before the wheels turn. If the steering wheel were a clock I have play from 11 to 1, if not more. It makes it extreamly hard to drive, I turn the wheel n expect the car to turn n it dosent. I have to account for the play in the wheel when I drive. Anyone have similar problems? Any idea how to take the play out to the steering system?

Thanks for the help

sounds like he said he has replaced it already. im assuming you replaced outer tie rods when u did the rack, right? besides that and the things you've already done take a look at bushings. did the rack come with its own poly bushings? ive seen them loosen on new edges, havent worked on many foxes. is there an adjustment on the rack?

after thought- check on install of bumpsteer kit. is the car lowered? thats really the only thing i can think of that could cause what you're describing.

yea I replaced the rag joint. I couldent think of the correct term. The car is lowered n the rack did come with poly bushings n new tie rod ends. I know on the older fords the PS system has a adjuster screw on the steering box but as far as I know there isn't one on the fox rack. I'm stumped. I'm going to put in a tubular k-member n coilovers soon so maby that will change it. But until then you got me.

with both fronts off the ground can you feel play shaking the wheels back and forth? put it on a lift and grab a wheel, turn it back and forth and check that bumpsteer kit, see if its taking up some of ur motion before the rack begins to move

Ok I will try it tomarrow. If it is the bumpsteer kit is it a matter of adjusting it or should I remove it completly?

It looks like that's the main problem. I got the kit from steeda and gauged it when I put it on. I have never had a bump steer kit before n there is a lot of play. I locked the steering wheel and there was play due to the bump steer kit. I removed the tie rod from the spindle n I could move the tie rod end (bump steer end) real easy. I'm not sure if I should just get another kit or remove it all together. Thanks again for the help
