Regular Maintenance Question

Regular Maintenance Question
I just bought a brand new base model 2008 Mustang last August, with a Pony pack.
The dealership sent me a notice yesterday saying "You need to come in for your 5000 mi. checkup!" If I remember correctly from the owner's manual (I don't have it in front of me), I don't really need to go in until I reach 7800 miles.
Any recommendations on when I should bring it in for it's first maintenance (excluding an oil change-- I get those every 3000 miles)? When I should go in for the next few (ie. every 6000 miles)? What should get done when I bring it in?
. . . and any reputable places to bring in a Mustang in or around Colma, CA?
--Edward
P.S. Apologies if I posted this in the wrong area; I'm new here.

You said it was a brand new Mustang right?
I assume you have a warranty then. I'd go in when they recommend. That way later down the road they can't stiff you on damage to the car because you skipped a check up.
