starter trouble
i have a 1969 mustang with a 351 windsor and a c4 transmission. i recently bought a high torque starter that is made for my engine, but for some reason wont work. the problem is, the starter comes on and spins, but the gear does not come out far enough to engage with the flywheel. i have the correct bell housing, flywheel (157 tooth) and separator plate. the problem isnt that the starter isnt close enough, but doesnt stick the gear out far enough to engage with the flywheel. so does anyone have any idea what starter i could get that would work? stock starters are too weak so it has to be more powerful, but actually work. the high torque starter sticks out about 3/4 of an inch to a full inch when engaged, the correct one has to stick out about an inch and a quarter to engage the flywheel. but u cant search starters according to gear length. any ideas?
