Default New Spark Plugs

I'm going to be installing some new spark plugs within the next couple days and I was wondering if there were any tips or advice you all could give me before I install them. I got NGK V-Power T55s which are pregapped I've been told. One question I did have was how to clean out where I screw the plug into. I've heard you should clean every space before installing new ones. Thanks

You're suppose to lubricate the threads of the plug with a little oil.

Never heard that one, just basic motor oil or what?

Anti-seize lube/compound. You can find it at any autoparts store. Keeps the plugs from corroding in place. You also want to use what's called a 'Thread Chaser' (auto parts store) this gets screwed into the spark plug hold and 'chases' the dirt and crude out of the threads. Keeps you from cross-threading or stripping the holes in the head.

I wouldn't use a thread chaser (especially on aluminum heads) unless you have a problem getting the plug in which you shouldn't. I use motor oil but anti seize is good it's just makes more of a mess. I think anti-seize is overkill for sparkplugs but it won't hurt. Make sure you do the plugs when the engine is cold....you shouldn't be doing it on a hot engine with aluminum heads.

Good point. Don't use the thread chaser unless you are having problems getting the new plugs installed. I don't know of a way to keep the s**t from getting into the cylinders when it cuts the crap outta the threads.

No way that I know of unless the heads are off the car at the time.

IMHO, it may not be enough stuff being cut out of the threads to worry about but unless there is a problem getting new plugs installed, I wouldn't do the thread chaser.
