no real power increase but your car will accelerate MUCH faster.

DO NOT GET THE 3.73's! I am telling you now you will be sorry. I have ridden in both and there is a diff. With an AOD you will want the 4.10s. There are all kinds of threads where guys say they have gotten 3.73s and wish they had of gone steeper. You will only want 3.73s if you are planning on going forced induction or do an insane amount of highway driving due to higher rpms. Also, most guys with 4.10s state they do not see a big swing in Mpg.

Ummm, the OP has a S197 which has the 5-speed 5R55S automatic, which is geared differently (3.22/2.29/1.54/1.00/0.71) from the 4-speed AOD/AODE automatics (2.40/1.47/1.00/0.67) or the 4R70W (2.84/1.55/1.00/0.70). Until you get to 4th, it really doesn't need axle gears as deep as you'd use with the 4-speed automatics to get the same performance.

With the same axle ratio, Second in the 5R55S is nearly as good as 1st in the AOD, and for all practical purposes 3rd in the 5R55S is identical to 2nd in the 4R70W and better than 2nd in the AOD.

You should buy gears to suit the rest of your own vehicle's total package, not that of a completely different car.

My choice would be the 3.73's. It doesn't need nearly as much help as either the 4-speed automatics or the 5-speed manuals do.

I really would encourage you (or anybody else for that matter) to get at least a little bit familiar with some of the more basic automotive math. In the long run I guarantee that you'll understand your car better, make better decisions, and save money.

okay so im guessing i should go wit teh 3.73 for the autmatic transmisson? i mean i want to see a nice increase in accelaration but i dont want to loose a huge pull on the highway. OR should i go wit the 4.10 cuase im going to end up regreting going lower? does anybody have either of these gears and have input would really help thanks.

Default 3.73

I have not heard too many bad things about either gear choice. 4.10's some will say are a little tough on the highway but you'll be picking your head out of the seatback. So good luck, you'll be pumped with either.

i still find it hard to believe that even to this day, 5 years after i joined these forums . .this question is still around . .of course u should install gears, after exhaust it should be the very next mod. IF you get 410s your gas mileage will take a hit and your speedometer will be way off but it will be a very noticeable change. enjoy
