S197 GT Exhaust
The White S197 GT I made a story about me beating now got headers installed. It's a standard. He took me for a ride in it and the thing sounds SICK. He said he had headers and an X-Pipe, when I raced he just had some type of exhaust and an intake.
He was telling me the car wasn't running right due to the header installation and needed a tune (it almost died on us as we were riding around?). But I was wondering why the car sounds so amazing, I mean it sounds better than any other car I have ever heard.
On to my questions though.
1. When he was reversing the car, he was just barely pressing the gas but the car sounded like it was WOT, Idk how to explain it..it would just roar up and go down as we were in reverse. (I didn't want to ask him why, I didn't want to look like an idiot)
2. Do standard cars sound better than automatics? I know these are stupid questions, but I was shocked at how awesome this thing sounded. When he gunned it, that thing just SCREAMED.
3. How much of a noise difference do headers make on the overall sound of the car? He said they were kooks headers.
4.Do you think with a cat-back my car would sound even close to that GT?
Sorry to be such an idiot, but this thing put a grin on my face, and i'm a dodge guy.

1. Yep. Louder exhaust will make it sound like that. Every stage of engine RPM will be that much louder.
2. They won't sound better since all the equipment would be the same, but they will be able to keep that "badass" sound longer since they can control their RPM range better. For example, with my automatic I get a great sound from 800-2000 RPM, after that it gets quiet until about 4000 RPM. A manual driver would be able to juice that sweet spot of either 2000 & 4000 RPM for as long as he likes. Of course, that sweet spot would change with every different exhaust set up.
3. World of difference. youtube videos of stock cars vs. headers cars.
4. I bet a cat-back would sound sick on your Dodge. Maybe not as good as the GT but close. One thing Ford has always done right, is exhaust note. We may not be as fast as Corvettes or SRT8's, we may not be as reliable as Hondas or Mitsubishi's, but damnit our exhaust sounds cool.
It's funny how many people will be intimidated by a good sounding exhaust.
My car might not be the fastest out there, but the exhaust is enough to scare away most rice burners...even the ones that would destroy me in a race.
Last summer I pulled up next to a guy in a newer Corvette, it wasn't a Z06, but it still would have torn me a new one in a race. He actually backed out and said, "I'm not racing that! Listen to that exhaust!! What is that a 427 SCJ???"

Thanks for chiming in man, I just don't think dad would allow me to put headers on the car. Yeah it's mine technically but he still has the say on what I can do on it. I listened to youtube videos of cars and it was inside the car and it didn't sound loud at all. I don't know if exhaust is just something you have to hear in person or what, but I could find any Dodge or Ford that sounded as good as this guys. Not even close, this thing SCREAMED. Maybe these cars sound just as good and I just can't tell it because it's a video on the internet.
That catback exhaust your looking for might be right up your alley. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to install, and it probably won't hurt your warranty as bad as headers.
Want a screaming exhaust? SLP Loudmouth. Check 'em out
Well I can sort of understand why your dad is against it. They are loud, and if you live in a suburban area it will likely **** off your neighbors. Also, since your car is pretty new it could void the warranty on the entire exhaust set up, from gaskets to exhaust tips, depending on how picky the dealership shop is.

Yeah I was thinking just going catback too, and yeah SLP is for sure what I want. I know a buddy that has a LT1 T/A with SLP Loudmouths and it's killer. I think he has headers, but still.
