Default Which year mustang should I consider?

I never owned an American car and quite skeptical about it honestly. Can you tell me what year mustang you have and if it has gave you any problems? I'm working with a 5-6k MAX budget on a used reliable Mustang GT (5sp). Which years Mustangs are reliable and less prone to mechanical issues? Are there any re-calls on certain year mustangs? Which year(s) mustangs should I stay away from?
This car will be used for recreation as I have my economical car for commutes. I will upgrade the intake and/or exhaust system on whatever I choose to go with. Any buying info will be great

I own an 07 GT, and to date have had no problems with it, (except the jerk who hit me and didnt leave information, but thats not the cars fault).
My dad has a 98 GT and the only problem its had to date is that it eats through rear diffs. It's at 80k miles and its on its 3rd rear end haha. The top also leaks, but that seems to be an issue with most SN95 mustangs (95-2004 i think.)

These are the only 2 mustangs I've dealt with, and I hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

Well, this is my first RWD car as well. Is it common for rear differentials to wear out on Mustangs?

no, in fact this is the first I've heard of it. My guess is they are being installed wrong but who knows.

From what I've gathered all late model Mustangs are relatively reliable, the 5.0 engines are solid as are the 4.6s.

I have an 07 GT and have had no problems with it. I keep it stored in the winter being in Michigan. There was one recall on it, and I think it had to do with the passenger airbag light, but I'm not positive. So far I love it and I'm anxious to get it out this year.

If your budget is 6k max, and your looking for a GT, I would imagine you would have to stick to 98' and back to stay in that range.

I had my eye on this salvage titled 2001: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1105247803.html

Owner said the car was hit in the fender and frame is straight. He had it for four years and it ran fine.
