Default normal gas amount?

I have a 98 mustang. I'll fill up the tank all the way and by 2 days its completely empty. I don't drive it very far. only to work which is at the MOST 20 miles there and back. I heard mustangs are really hard on gas and uses it very quickly. Is that whats happening or is it something else?

is it a v6 or v8? Stop and go driving kills gas mileage. When was the last time you did a full tune up? Check the air filter and replace it if it is dirty. Plugs, Wires, fuel filter? When were they all changed?

You can emtpy a full tank by driving around 40 miles? Geez make sure the tranny isn't stuck in 1st gear

Check your tire air pressures, if they're real low it will reduce your mileage.

Why don't you do a fuel economy check so you know the actual economy of the car.. Fill that tank and ZERO out the trip odometer. Next time you need gas fill it full again, record the amount of gas and the distance traveled. Divide the 2 & get your economy.

My '02 GT 5 speed gets around 27 miles per gallon if I don't honk on the throttle too much

Don't feel bad, the best my '90 gets was 9.2 MPG. Yes when it's that low you use a decimal place to make it look higher. I blame it on the 351W and cams but it's a small price to pay to ride around in style.

You really can't trust the needle on the gas gauge, they usually go waaay past the E by the time you're really empty. If you wanna find out one day, go for a cruise with an "empty tank" and carry a bit of gas in a spare tank in the trunk. Drive till she stalls Then toss in the reserve gas.

It's actually a good thing to know about your car. How far DOES the gas gauge go when it's really empty(?)

mustangs eat gas, but they get better than 4 mpg, which sounds like what you are getting. You better go get some help. You should get more than 40 miles on a full tank. You must have something seriously wrong if you're getting such low economy. I get about 16mpg, 99% stop and go city driving with a/c on the majority of the time. It's hard to fight my foot all day long. and to the 27mpg guy, how do you get a higher mpg rating than epa ratings?? And also, you should be able to go at least 40 miles farther when your low gas light comes on (according to legend), but I wouldn't want to find out.
