my dad has an old F-150 4X4 with the E4OD auto trans in it and its having a lot of problems. we drove it down the highway about 60 miles round trip (not hauling anything) the other day and by the time we got back it was almost completely locked in 1st gear. i went out after about 4 hours and got underneath her and the trans was still so hot it burned me, we had to have it rebuilt once before because it went out on us, could the coolant line be clogged? i know there where metal shavings in the trans before we had it rebuilt but i thought the shop cleared them. i dont know much about auto transmissions but the amount of heat it generates seems excessive.
