It wouldn't sound cooler. It would sound like straight up ****. Don't be a dumbass. Louder is not always better. If you want it loud just buy SLP loudmouths they sound pretty good and are loud as hell.

+1. I ran my 1971 Chevelle down the narrow one way streets of Upper Darby one night around 11pm, setting off every car alarm in the process. The car sounded like ****. It sounded much better after I bolted the Flowmasters back on.
A friend of mine had a Dodge Neon with the srt body package on it. It had dual exhaust tips after the muffler. He had this peice that would eliminate the muffler leaving just the tips. It was loud. Stupid loud because it was a 4 cyl. The idiot goes out drinking and gets pulled over because it was so loud, and gets a DUI.
The moral of the story is, If you get pulled over for your car being too loud, don't be drinking and expect the cops to fine you for not having cats on your car.
Get a set of headers if you want it louder.

Thumbs down Without mufflers....bad idea

I had an 88 Mustang LX, 5 speed,3.08 gears.I had a muffler shop in Kileen, Tx remove the stock mufflers and route the pipes out the side in front of the rear wheels.

Being 22 at the time, I thought it sounded awesome, kinda like a stock car,and was very surprised to find that my low end torque was shot in the ***. I would rev it through the gears to 4800-5000 for the "Days of Thunder" soundtrack, but looking back, it produced ear splitting "noise".

Worse yet, having not run mufflers,my stock cats were totally blown out within a month. It sounded like a 100 marbles were we loose inside.

I had the cats replaced and installed a pair of Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers.Immediately, the torque was back along with a nice mellow note at idle, followed by a pleasing throaty roar through the gears.

My best bang for the buck was the addition of an off road h pipe to complement the Super Turbos. That combo was awesome, deep very powerful with killer mid range and top end power.Sounded to me like an old Boss 302 at speed. Hope this helps.
