Default Rotor Rust

Rust has appeared on new steel rotors. Surface rust. Can this be cleaned and painted? With what kind of cleaner and paint? Will hi-temp paint [aluminum for headers] do?
The rust is only where the pads do not touch. If the pad surface is over-sprayed with the hi-temp paint, will the pads clean the excess and what damage will be caused, if any?
Jet-Hot recently did a set of long tube headers and did a great job. Can the rotors be coated rather than painted?
Many thanks...

I have the same problem, and it drives me insane. I hope someone chimes in.

You may paint the areas that DO NOT contact the pads, but mask carefully doing so. Try just cleaning it off with a wire brush first.

How much rust? Post pics. If discs sit for a while they'll get some surface rust. If it's like a thin powder layer then using the brakes scrubs it right off.

Use Rusticide (phosphoric acid product) to remove and neutralize the rust. Just be sure to not get it on chrome, as it will affect the finish.
