Bro people tell you to buy one cause we know from experience. About five yrs ago I was in the same boat. I bought an 86 2.3L I had a built 302 sitting in the garage, and was dead set on putting it in the 86. It ended up costing me about 2k to get the car done. Now looking back on it I would have just bought an 86 GT and put the engine and tranny in it it would have probably cost the same.

5.4 sounds fun as long as it fits in the engine bay. How clean do you want it? 5.4 might require a grinder to the strut towers, IDK though. Just go old school, 351C with a C6 and a 9"!!! They were sick in ~71 Mach 1's and would be more unique. It doesn't ultimately matter, it's your car, you have to do the work. We're just posting our opinions, which as everyone knows are like a**holes.

The 5.4L will fit right in, no grinding needed.
