Default Simple Car questions...

Hello,
I just joined these forums and i recently been wanting to know more about cars because i know i will need to get one later in life (in maybe less than 5 years time) and stuff like that. Anyway i started my questions off in a forum i occasionally visit and had more questions then i thought i had so i searched and found this forum.

So if you could answer these questions it would be of much help,
(If you need some info on how much i know or what i asked here is the link to the other thread
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=517943)

Are there different engines other than the ones called V8, V12, V..., W16,W.... ?
Is it the more cylinders the engine has, the deeper the grunting it has when it's idle? e.g V16 deeper than V8?
Which engines have the deepest grunt/noise?
If i were to buy a heavily powered car, how could i still benefit from it if i don't use it for racing and street racing?
Do alot of people just buy heavily powered cars for looks? if not what else could/do they do with it?
Does anyone have a link to a video clip of the infamouse 1967 Shelby Cobra Mustang GT 500 ?

Thankyou,

There are all sizes and configurations of internal combustion engines. There are rotary, inline, horizontally opposed, and the "V" configuration. The number of cylinders can run from three inline(Geo Metro),to V-twelve(Jaguar)?I have heard that Cadillac is bringing back a V-16 engine like they had back in the 20's.Upgraded of course. The sound an engine makes depends on displacement, cam timing, and rotational degrees between firing pulses.A car with excess power will not work as hard in daily driving duty as a car with an engine that is just adequate to move the car down the road.Cams control the intake of the fuel air mix and the expulsion of the spent exhaust gasses.
