Overheating 427 F---Unique Performance???
Does anybody out their in Mustang Land have information/instructions on what needs to be done to fix the overheating problem on the 427 FE engines Unique Performance used?
Thanks!
Thanks!
OK, from your post we know you have a 68 body, a 427cu in FE motor. Can you tell us a bit about the cooling system? Radiator size and number of cores. Fan type and size and model if electric. Water pump, thermostat etc. You need to analyze this based on what you have, not some inherent problem designed in by Unique performace.
Unique may have designed in your problem but with the state of thier affairs, its you that is going to deal with it if its going to be solved.
We can help you do that. The combo you have is not all that odd and similar to what some others here have. There are also folks here with specific industry experience that can be brought to bear on the problem once defined. Its a heat transfer problem, not a Unique Performance problem at this point.
This thread would also be seen by a much larger audiance over in the Classic Mustangs area. Just a suggestion.

Thanks a lot for your reply. In the research I've done, I've found out that the biggest problem is the exhaust system. Apparently, the system is too small and doesn't allow that big 427 to breathe. I'll try this post on the classic forum as you suggest. Thanks again!
While a too small exhaust will indeed hamper performance. It is not the source of your overheating problem if the car is street driven. In street driving, the engine is simply not making enough horsepower long enough for the exhaust restriction to have any effect on engine temperature.
Start the new thread and fill us in on the details of the cooling system and a bit about the engine configuration.
