Default u joint installation

yea.. i got bad u joints.. and i just bought them...17.87.. nmot too bad.. i thoguht they would be uber expensive but they are cheap.. now how difficult of an installation is this? My dad who is a mechanic sez we gotta take the whole drive shaft out and then replace them after the drive shaft is out.. so me being a car newbie and everything is this sumthing i could do myself with the right reesearch, or should i get an experts help?

ive heard its not hard, but, you have to have some sort of special press/c-clamp to do it w/ so ive heard..........and im in the same boat you are. but my friends gonna give me 2 spare driveshafts. so.....ill just take care of the whole thing

It's easy. You do have to remove the driveshaft which is only attached at the rear axle by 4 bolts. The front (snout) just slides out of the tranny. There are C-clips that need to be removed to press out the joints. A vise and some properly sized sockets are needed to push out the joint caps.

Be very careful when you pull the caps off cause there is a **** load of needle bearings in there just waiting to fall all over.And make sure when reinstalling the caps they are all the way seated down or it will not go back toghter correct
