Talking Thinkin Bout Buyin a Mustang & I Have Some General Questions

Ok so I am just 18 yrs old & I am trying to decide on buying this Mustang..which is the car I have always wanted. This will be my 2nd car. It is a 2001 Mustang GT, 6cylinder, with 121,000 miles on it. The couple who own it say they bought it brand new...This also means there is less of a chance that its been hot-rodded by some young kid like all the rest I've found. I want a nice looking car, but I also need something reliable. I have a pretty good distance to drive to work everyday and everyone tells me I should not buy this Mustang because you cannot take them on the road in winter time and I will need something reliable in the winter as well. I have also been told that they are easy to wreck on wet roads. I would also like to know how the gas mileage is? Can anyone give me some advice or some tips please????
Thank you,
Tonya.

There is no such thing as a 6 banger GT. A 6 cyl is just a mustang, a 4.6l V8 is a GT.

Get some good all season tires on it and it will be just fine, the GT's can be a pain in weather. I have lost traction with it before, not always fun, but w/e, I don't own it for mpg or driveability. Just be smart about it and you will be fine.

Also, to me 120k miles seems a little high. I haven't even broke 95k and mine is a retired undercover cop car. That car was a serious grocery getter. Closest one must have been 50mi away. Ask them about maintenance and if they have any records of work done. Wouldn't hurt to carfax it either, even if you have to pay for it. It will show every time it has been into a dealer for work and what was done.

Honestly, if your worried about mileage get something newer with a 4 cyl.

If you want a Mustang, get a GT, because in the end, your going to want one..

If its a real gt then it has 8 cylinders. The non-gt 6 cylinder models get better gas mileage, but have less power. 121k miles is getting up there, but it always depends on how the car has been maintained. I've seen cars with 170K miles that run better than ones with 60k miles... its all up to maintenance. I agree with blue blooded pony, RUN A CARFAX. It will show any changes in ownership, as well as any accident where a police report was filed and some where one wasn't, plus possibly some maintenance records. As for winter, tires will help but it also depends on how much winter driving experience/skills you have. Some people are better than others when it comes to driving in bad weather. Good luck in your search.

Well, I love my V6. I wish I did have a gt, but I got my v6 wish 54k miles, in excellent condition, a local school teacher (lady) owned it, she turned 40, and traded it in for a new automatic gt because she was getting to old for a 5 speed. My suggestion for MPG and insurance purposes get a lower mileage 5 speed v6, they are enough fun, plus I love my 24mpg city, and it can still get up and go. I wouldn't buy a 100K+ mustang, look for a lower mileage one around, you can get one for around 5-7k with 50-75k miles.

Even with the GT, you will be able to drive it in winter, it might take a bit but you would get used to it. Get some decent snows and just take it easy.

100k miles on a modern ford is nothing. Many people see 200k+ out these cars if maintained. That said, you can tell when you look/drive a car whether it is a piece or not

Make sure it's got a 5-speed in it!
