Default steering turns on braking

Hi,

I recently replaced all 4 tires on my 2001 Mustang (base) with fuzion HRI. I just noticed that my steering wheel turns slightly to the left or right when I brake moderately hard/hard.

Is this supposed to happen with new tires or is there something wrong with my car?

Thanks for your help..

Hi,,

thanks for replying. I got alignment before I replaced my tires. Additionaly I recently drove
on a highway at 70+ and did not notice any drifting..

Sounds like mild bump steer. Is the front suspension worn out?

Moderate braking will not induce bumpsteer.

Is this a stock suspension with stock size tires?

The slight turning? Do you mean brake and it pulls slightly to left OR right on a flat road wtih not depressions in the pavement from heavy trucks?

Moderate braking can induce bump steer if the suspension is worn, the car will generate too much dive and the steering linkage will swing past a level position and toe the front wheels out. That's why I asked if the suspension was worn.

I replaced the left tie rod (outer) for my car a month ago.. During which I got the suspension checked and I was told that its ok...

I did a little more testing today and found out that the slight turn of the wheel happens during the final moments before the car stops...

i.e slowing down from 40 mph to 10 is ok (straight braking), the wheel turn while bringing the car down from 10 to 0...

it also happens when I apply the brakes when the car is on idle acceleration.. (in Drive ofcourse)
