throwout bearing question
Last year i helped my son put a new clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing in his 3.8L 98 Mustang. Everything seemed to be working fine afterwards.
This year i have noticed a little more noise coming from the throwout bearing than i like. Got underneith and it looks like it works fine while depressing the pedal. When he puts it in neutral and lets out on the pedal the throwout bearing still rides a little on the pressure plate springs. Constantly turning. Thats where the noise is coming from. The clutch fork seems to shake a little too.
Should the throwout bearing be away from the pressure plate springs when the pedal is up?
I would guess so but not sure. I would also guess it wouldn't last long constantly turning.

I believe that there's always some amount of pressure on the bearing, otherwise it would rattle like crazy. A little noise wouldn't concern me. I'm assuming you replaced it last year when you did the clutch.
I've been a tech at a transmission shop for about 10 years and see T.O. bearings like that and worse all the time. It's also pretty common for one that new and even newer to start making noise. We usually replace them under warranty when they start doing that.
