tirerack.com says my car can take 245/40/18 on the front and 285/35/18 on the rear. it's a 98gt. does that sound good on 18x9 and 18x10 saleen wheels? 285 seems a little too big to me. wouldn't that rub against the fenders?
You shouldn't need spacers.
If your getting Saleen wheels, you should call them with fitment questions. I can't imagine that they would make a wheel that you need spacers for.
I have a '95 with 17x9" Cobra R wheels, 275-40's, and Saleen constant rate springs.
It's a little tight in the front, but I only rub a little at full lock if I push it. I think you could go a little bigger than 245's in the front.
I've got plenty of room in the rear, I've also seen a similar car with the same wheels with 315's in the back that looked fine.
With unidirectional tires, you shouldn't rotate tires from left to right or visa versa. This leaves rotating front to rear. No big deal, just replace the fronts or rears as they wear out. You just have to decide if the 315's are worth it. Do you want car guys to look at your car and go "WHOA!"?
