Default V6 to V8

My friend knows atleast more then i do about cars and i always tell him about how I want to drop a V8 in my 99' V6 and one day he told me that i could make my engine a V8 just buy switching out the heads.....now i have know idea if this is true or not....seems kinda too easy to me, but please if anyone can help me with this question please respond.

Also....what ever I do to my engine in my stang I want to do myself but with the help of my friends uncle(master tech) for the simple fact of knowing how to build engines. So if I cant just switch heads can I atleast use the stock 3.8L block to start building my desired V8? If not, how much on avg. would a standard 4.6L V8 block be?
Thanks

your friend has no idea what he's talking about and should quit giving people advice.

a v-6 has 6 cylinders, pistons, and rods.

a v-8 has 8 cylinders, pistons, and rods.

switching out the heads (piece that sits on top of the block and holds the valves, and springs etc.) will not give you two more pistons magically transforimg your engine into a v-8.

if you were to put a v-8 into your car, you would need a number of things. like computer, wiring harness, fuel system, probably a different k member and a different rear end if you want things to last.

if you have any more questions just ask here.

yeah but hed lose money selling his car and its a pain in the *** and he wants to learn how to put in an engine. id get a crate engine and save up for the new rear end/tranny/wiring. it will cost more but you can buy one sick crate, like the mach 1 engine

the easiest way to go about doing this, with as little headaches as possible is to just sell your car and buy a V8 mustang like said above. to convert a v6 to a 8 is ALOT more work that you think. lets say you sell your 6 for 10,000, just a guess not an exact figure. and you can buy a good condition GT for 15,000 or 16,000. i difference of 5 to 6 thousand. now to convert your sixer to an 8, you need to get ride of the rest of the drive line. and new electronics like said above. im going to give a rough guess that all of that will cost around 5 to 7 grand. idk i could be a little off. your cost of the swap does not include labor since your stated that you have that all takin' care of. this is just my opinion of this subect. its all up to you what you want to do. if you want to do the swap go for it.

i'm with everyone else, but you could also supercharge that v6. the v6 gets a bad rap, but its a pretty damn good engine really, with some decent potential. if you want to tear into the engine for the learning experience, have your uncle help you put forged components in it then superchage it.
