Angry Just bought car - trans problems

Hey guys,

Just bought an 03 GT 60k miles. On the way back from the dealer today I noticed a problem with the trans. With the clutch let out and slight acceleration in 1st 2nd or 3rd gears, there is a pretty good kocking that you can hear. The problem goes away if you press the clutch in about 1/4 of the way. If you let off again - come back instantly. Some type of bering issue?

Id take it right back to the dealer you bought it from and tell them to fix it. You should of rec'd a 30 day warranty on it or something.

Its the throw out bearing, take it back while theres still a warranty. If you ignore it it'll just get worse and damage your pressure plate and possibly the clutch fork.

Heh, welcome to the Ford family. Every ford I and my father have had, the tranny blows at 60k. Ford make a transmission with an aluminum piece in it that ALWAYS breaks at 60k. Its the same basic principle as the inkjet printers. Printer costs $50 but they know you will be back every 3 months to buy their $100 ink cartrige. I gurentee you this is what you will find when you take it to the shop. the sh*tty little aluminum piece is breaking and you need to replace the entire transmission, or fix the part for twice as much money. If you plan on keeping the car past 120k miles, buy an aftermarket transmission. If you buy the replacement Ford tranny, be prepared to replace it again at another 60k.

Based on personal experience with these cars
88 Ford Taurus, Transmission replaced 3 times. (had like 170k on it, tranny replaced every 60k)
98 Ford Taurus, Transmission replaced 1 time. (currently has 107k)
02 Ford Mustang, Transmission replaced 1 time (currently at 71k)

I have been working in transmission shops for 10+ years so I can honestly say you have no idea what the hell you are talking about. If you are having that many tranny problems in different vehicles, perhaps you should examine your driving habits.

As for the original poster, you could have a gear with a broken tooth on it. Take it to a reputable trasnmission shop and have a competent tech take it for a drive. They should be able to tell you exactly what it is.
