Default Mustang or?

Hey guys quick question, I'm in the processing of selling my car and looking to pick up another Mustang. I sold my Mustang back in 2004 and now I'm selling my Subaru wrx limiited. I have the Subaru modified with after market turbo and supporting mods. Since my latest mods it should be a mid 12 second car. Now I'm looking to get rid of it, and I wanted to pick up a 5.0.

I have a few questions for everyone, thanks in advance!

1. What could I find for about $5-6k (Only looking for a weekend/fun car I've seen a lot of 5.0s around this price range 89-91.)

2. What kind of power will the transmission/clutch hold before I start having issues? (I know the wrx started having issues with the clutch around 350 awhp.)

3. How much work am I looking at to get a mid or sub 12 second 5.0?

4. Supercharger or turbo, what would you guys recommend (not familiar with boosting these cars so any recommendations would be great)

Thanks guys! I'm sure I'll have more questions later on.

With that price range you should be able to afford a real decent 4.6 New Edge too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there are more mods available for that engine

When you say new edge, you speak of the 96-2k body style? I'm a big fan of the 91 Mustang 5.0's, I just want to know the answers I posted above, so I know which platform to go with next.

your best bet would be to go with a fox 5.0, prob 87-93. the 79-86 were similar except the front end, its a matter of preference though. i dont know where you are going to find a decent new edge GT for $5k though. most people go supercharger on the 5.0 as opposed to turbo. it costs much more to run a turbo setup, but you can also get alot more power out of one. i have heard that the trannys will hold upwards of 400rwhp before you start seeing problems (but dont quote me on that #). i think that with a h/c/i setup, some gears, and sticky tires then you can be well into the 13's and possibly 12's, and with a blower added you would easily be low-mid12 car.

13s with those mods are a disappointment, my Subaru is a good mid 12 second car and it doesn't have a ton of money into it either.

So, can I get good power out of these cars? I don't want to pick up a 5.0 and only get 300whp maybe 400 supercharged and $5k dollars into performance parts.

My overall question is, what kind of money am I looking at "mod wise" to reach 400hp? Just in performance parts, how much money am I looking to spend?

Get a 90-93 5.0 and toss a Vortech on it.10LBS of boost will get you into the 12's

Thanks Tony, I just don't want to pick up a car and not be able to break 12's in it.

How much money (modification wise) would it take for me to break into the low 12s high 11s? Assuming I go supercharged or turbo setup, I'm still on the hunt for a nice, clean 88-93 5.0.

you have to understand that a suby will always be faster with less money because it comes turbo'd stock. All you need to do is buy a Greddy or Apexi turbo controller and pump the boost up and bam, 13 second car. same with the turbo'd 240sx's. With the mustang, you need to pay for the WHOLE system when you boost it, not just a boost controller or bigger turbo. You must also understand that although more expensive, that V8 will rape the 4 banger if both were turbo'd the same way. It's like buying an 04 cobra that has the blower stock, throwing a smaller pulley on it and then saying the 04 GT sucks because you need so much money to buy the whole blower system to get it up to par. Now if you really want to go fast, a kenne bell flowzilla 2.1L supercharger with supporting mods such as a HCI, bolt ons, ect (more expensive route. better throttle response and power curve), or HP performance single turbo system alone will put the car at 500/500.

Thanks for the information, I undestand that. I just wanted to make sure, that once I toss on a supercharger or turbo that it'll be worth my time. The Subaru runs pretty strong, but I want something different now. I'll check out those links, and see what kind of prices I am looking at. I just wanted to shoot for atleast 400whp/tq, I'd prefer a turbo, never had a supercharger though.
