Unhappy Ugh ford problem lol help would be nice

ok so, i finally got my 1990 mustang lx convertible, 2.3l auto
now i was going thru the process of changing the tyranny filter as the tyranny was shifting hard. come to find out i have a 95 tyranny on my car that the guy did not tell me. i was told that this is why it was not shifting right, something to do with the ecu and tyranny not working together since the ecu is from the 1990 motor, not a 95. i wanted to get a v6 into her anyways. si i had the idea of getting a 95 motor and ecu since i have the tranny for it. but someone told me to just get a 1990 tyranny but if i want to put in a v6 sooner or later i will have to put the old tyranny back on, which just seems pointless. now when i was driving her at about 40 i went to make a complete stop and she almost stalled out, like a standard would do. now would that be the tyranny and ecu not working together again? or something else. im just trying to do the most cost efficient thing. so should i maybe get a new motor and tyranny or keep the motor and get a 1990 tyranny or keep the 95 tyranny in it and get a 95 motor and ecu...ugh i dont no what to do.. if anyone can help and knows any sites that could give me prices on 95 motors tranns and ecu and maybe 1990 trannys that would be nice, something in ct would be even better... im just so down as this is my first mustang an i have all these problems already

How did you find out you have a '95 tranny in your car? They are two completely different transmissions. A '95 tranny would not work in your car no matter what computer you have unless you also get the entire wiring harness for it since it is electronically shifted and the '90 isn't. The '90 tranny is an AOD which stands for Automatic Over Drive. The '95 is an AODE which stands for Automatic Over Drive Electronically shifted. If you really do have a AODE, I would take it out and get the correct AOD for it. MUCH less hassle at this point and if you really do have an AODE in there that you have been driving around without any electronics hooked up it might be junk now anyway.

Also, if I was going to go to the expense and trouble of an engine swap like that, I would put a 5.0 in it instead of a V-6. Just my opinion.

Hi,

The trans in your 4 cylinder is an A4LD. Like the other poster said, im curious how you managed to fit the AOD in your Mustang.

+1 on the V8 too
