this is a dumb question but what does the gt in mustang gt stand for? Grand Touring?

 

its grand something. tourismo, touring....

someone once told me it stands for "gets tickets"[&:]

no, I think it is grand touring...not 100% though.

What does GT stand for?
In 1964, Ford Design made up "Grand Sport" badges when they were developing a performance version of the Mustang. In the end they Grand went Touring. This name made more sense with GT, which stands for since Ford was developing their long-distance Ford endurance racing GT (GT-40) for with the goal of beating Ferrari and winning the 24 hours of LeMans.

 

Turismo is italian for tourism/touring I think...so they both mean the same thing.

 

I think Ferrari is to credit for GT.. They were the first to use the term, and it did stand for "Grand Tourismo"
