Default Need some help -S197-

Havnt been here in a while but im hoping u guys can help!

not sure if this is in the right section...

So i woke up, and my battery was dead i was like wtf and didnt know what happen... got a friend to give me a jump and lend me his set of cables (never really needed them for the mustang)

So i finally made it to work today after being super late and found the problem...

apparently when i take my key out the ignition and open the door, the car stereo and other equipment (power windows) stay on? and its draining my battery!!!

im just confused why its doing this

anyone have any advice for? Im hoping its something simple that i deactivated without knowing it... once i deactivated the automatic window closer feature and it took me like an hour to realize it

I disconnected the battery while im @ work and i hope it starts up so i can get home and out of this freezing weather...
much thanks in advance!

Hi,

It sounds like it could be possible a bad ignition switch. Hopefully someone with more experience with these S197's will reply soon, but the above is my educated guess.

i think on the s197 cars, the radio etc. stays on even after you turn the car off and pull the key out. it cuts everything off when the door is open.
OP- try taking your key out and then opening the passenger door and see if that door will shut the electronics off. if so, then it sounds like there is some sort of switch in your drivers door that has gone bad.

Hi,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. My Mustang experience is mainly with the Foxes

And i agree with you about the door switch. Thats where i would look first along with checking out a wiring diagram.

Yep, the door latch switch is probably a bit gummed up with old grease and crud and the cold weather just made the crud stiff enough so the switch doesn't turn off. Try spraying some brake cleaner and then some penetrating oil such as WD-40 in the latch and see if that frees it up.
