Last night on the way home my wifes 1995 Mustang died on me. The lights and everything else were good but faded away as a sat there. There was some smoke coming from under the hood, but the mechanic told me it was normal when burning off old oil. A younger gentleman came by and gave me a jump start. The car started fine and drove the remaining 3 miles home. As we were waiting he was showing me how corroded the terminals were and that it may have caused a bad connection to kill the car.

So I got the car to autozone and the battery was dead and put the new one in. While I was there they noticed that a valve cover gasket was leaking onto the manifold and the vacuum hose was leaking. I started my way home and at the light closest to my house I started hearing a rattling while I accelerated but not while I was coasting or idling. It gets better, at the same light the car stalls out and it takes me a few cranks and starts back up again. As I get about 2 miles from home I can't get the car to go faster than a certain speed and it eventually putters out in the driveway. Any thoughts?

check the alternator, it might not be charging the battery or the car so without power its going to die as the battery gets drained. If you pull it off and bring it in to autozone they can test it to see if it is bad.

if you're leaking oil out the valve cover I would check your oil levels it make sure you didn't run it out of oil. how high was the temp of the motor when it died?

While I was the they checked the starter and the alternator. I couldn't tell you about how hot the car was but it was completely smoking, they said it was really hot.

Actually when I got the oil change the guy told me it was going to smoke for a few days burning off the old oil, so I had no idea the gasket was leaking.

Yea I don't think its an alternator issue. I had one go out on another car and it killed the battery completely, so it may be the fuel injection. If I can get it to stay running I will take it to get diagnostics check on it. Thanks for the help all.
