The biggest reason I used plats in the past were to keep from needing to change plugs as often. They do a good job for that reason since they can last for quite a few miles. One thing no one mentions is that the electrodes, ground AND center, still erode.I pulled a set of platinums out of my MK VIII with about 90,000 miles on them and the little platinum discs were pristine looking but the rest of the firing tips were quite eroded. The platinum discs were sitting on little stalks and looked kinda' like mushrooms. They weren't that pronounced but you get the idea.I can only imagine what the cylinder walls would've looked like if one of those things had broke off and flew and scraped around in the engine????

People swear by cops for performance due to the supposed lower resistance of the conductors but the difference would be small. The plats keep the plug gap constant right up to the point of failure where cops need to be checked and regapped every so often.

The bottom line is whether you would like to just put in some double plats and pretty much forget them,or to change cops a little more frequently.

You need to check and make sure that you aren't supposed to run iridium plugs. I have seen several vehicles that the manufacturer specifies iridium and if you use anything else the car will NOT run right.

Good to know, I am searching around for some new Spark Plugs, and I need all the information I can get about these Spark Plugs so that my Stang runs as sweet as it can be. I still need to get a hold of a Mustang Manual though, This would help me out alot with information that I need to know about my car. Specs, and what not. Too bad that I am broke, lol.

Anyhow does anyone have a Manual and can tell me what the required Spark Plug is (Copper, Iridium, Platinum)?

Cool

for an 02 i would say platinums are probably what ford used because i believe iridium was still new in 02 and wasnt widely used. also i dont believe coppers have been used by a manufacturer in a very long time

Platinum spark plugs last much longer than standard spark plugs.

The tfi system in the mustang was not designed for the electrical characteristics required to properly operate platnuims, if you doubt such OP, ask /pm joel5.0.....his experience with them as well as mine in the 5.0 have been not to install them as I have removed many sets that have been a result of drivibility issues, such as hesitations, misfires and or mpg loss.........countless examples of removing them on a 5.0 mustang where they affected performance...here's something to read OP
http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,24365.0.html JUST USE AN AUTOLITE 25 OR what the factory recommended motorcraft plug is

I just recently changed my spark plugs. Motorcraft is what I got, factory plugs. They work great.

I had Bosch platinums, 3 years and 40,000km later switched to NGK G power. No difference in power and mileage. After reading all these "FULL ALERT, DO NOT USE PLATINUMS" I switched to regular Motorcrafts from the Ford dealer. Nice price too.
I've come to a conclusion. Unless you measure your performance to the tenth of a horsepower, et to the hundreth of a second or mileage to the foot. You will not notice a difference.
